BOMBALA CUP

The Bombala Jockey Club traditionally holds its annual race day to coincide with the running of the Caulfield Cup. This falls on the third Saturday in October, and occurs between the end of the football seasons and before summer activities begin in full. At this time of spring, there is a major focus on horse racing, centred on the Melbourne and Sydney carnivals.

Being a Community Club, a great opportunity is afforded to horses and trainers out of the upper echelon of the metropolitan sphere. Thanks to our sponsors and Racing NSW, prize money offered is excellent for our tier of racing. The feature Bombala Cup is sponsored by Dongwha Timbers, our major local business, who has also contributed significantly to the Club’s facilities. The races are always well supported by connections from Canberra, the south coast, Gippsland and the local area, and a competitive programme is ensured on the track and in the betting ring. Tote and bookmakers field on the local and metropolitan races, and all events are now relayed on the big screen.

The day is always well attended by the Bombala community, and is one of the premier social events for the whole area. Fashions on the Field is keenly contested, and ensures that the day is colourful.  The Marquee is always fully booked, and is popular with groups from Canberra and the coast. Bar and barbeque facilities are offered, and a jumping castle is a welcome attraction for youngsters.

Bombala races provide a perfect opportunity to enjoy a great Australian tradition, and to experience the essence of the rural lifestyle and environment.
